UAE Shuts 200 Illegal Social Media Accounts For Nanny And Maid Recruitment

Dubai, September 16, 2026: The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) has issued a significant alert for residents and families in the UAE regarding the recruitment of domestic workers, including nannies, housemaids, cooks, drivers, and caregivers. During the first half of 2026, the MoHRE, in collaboration with the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA), shut down approximately 200 social media accounts found to be promoting domestic-worker recruitment and employment services without the required licenses.

* MoHRE and TDRA shut down 200 unlicensed social media accounts.

* Families are warned against cheap offers on platforms like Facebook and TikTok.

Risks of Unlicensed Social Media Offers

The crackdown targeted accounts that were either operating without ministry authorization or were not associated with any licensed domestic worker recruitment office. The ministry cautioned families against engaging with offers on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, TikTok, or other channels that promise cheap maid, urgent nanny, direct transfer, no agency fee, or ready to join services. Authorities emphasized that these offers often lead to risks involving fraud, unlicensed recruitment, irregular visa status, unclear salary terms, and contract disputes.

MoHRE noted that domestic-worker recruitment is a strictly regulated activity. Oversight is no longer limited to physical inspections; the ministry is now utilizing electronic monitoring, tracking systems, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools to identify and penalize illegal entities. Employers are advised to verify a recruiter’s status against the list of licensed domestic worker recruitment offices available on the MoHRE official website before making any payments or signing agreements. Licensed recruitment offices in the UAE are mandated to follow approved service standards and price controls, ensuring regulatory safeguards for both employers and workers. Under the current framework, it is prohibited for recruitment offices to demand commissions or financial rewards from workers in exchange for job placement. Furthermore, domestic worker contracts must clearly outline job duties, wages, recruitment terms, and financial commitments. Laws strictly prohibit the recruitment of workers under 18 and strictly forbid discrimination, sexual harassment, forced labor, trafficking, and physical harm.

Reporting and Dispute Channels

For suspicious advertisements or unlicensed services, the public can report incidents to the ministry at 600590000. In cases of contractual disputes or complaints regarding salaries, rights, or fees, the ministry encourages the use of official labour complaint channels rather than informal settlements. The MoHRE continues to monitor the market through digital and field operations to ensure compliance with legal recruitment procedures.
