Two Indian citizens visiting the United Arab Emirates were killed in a fatal road accident in the Shahama area of Abu Dhabi on the night of August 23, 2026.
- The victims were traveling from Sharjah to Abu Dhabi for business purposes.
- Their car struck a stationary vehicle, leading to a subsequent rear-end collision by a school bus.

The victims are
53-year-old Naranth Hamsa Kokkancheri from Trippanachi, Malappuram, and
54-year-old Mohammed Ashraf from Kumbala, Kasaragod. Both victims had recently arrived in the UAE on visit visas, shared a long-standing friendship, and were engaged in joint business activities. Hamsa Kokkancheri is survived by his wife, Arifa Iliyan, and children Sauda, Ashik, and Anees, along with his son-in-law Shafi. Mohammed Ashraf is survived by his wife, Naseema, and children Mumtaz, Muneer, Najila, and Aslamia.
The incident occurred when their car struck a stationary vehicle, leading to a subsequent rear-end collision by a school bus. The vehicle was crushed between the two, resulting in the
immediate death of both passengers. The Sri Lankan driver of the car sustained serious injuries and remains under treatment in an emergency hospital ward.
Following the completion of mandatory police, hospital, and Indian mission documentation, including post-mortem and death certificates,
Hamsa's remains were scheduled to be repatriated to India by Tuesday night. Local community members and social workers have assisted the families with the repatriation process and formal procedures.
