Telangana Rigger Killed in Tragic Saudi Arabia Accident

A 27-year-old rigger from Telangana, Kashireddy Rakesh, has died following a workplace accident in the Jizan region of Saudi Arabia. The incident, which occurred on October 13, 2026, has left his family in the Jagtial district reeling from the sudden loss.

Details of the Fatal Accident

Rakesh, a resident of Yakinipur village in the Korutla mandal, had been working in Saudi Arabia for approximately three and a half years. The fatal accident took place during operations near a glass-reinforced plastic pipeline route.

While the exact cause is being clarified, reports indicate two possible scenarios:

  • A heavy pipe was dropped by a crane, crushing the worker.
  • A sand collapse occurred while he was attempting to secure a pipe within a pit.

The deceased's body is currently being held at the New General Hospital in Al Darb as officials and community leaders work to facilitate his repatriation to India.

Repatriation and Family Support

The news has been met with deep sorrow in his home village. To prepare his ailing father for the difficult task of receiving his remains in Hyderabad, the family has chosen to withhold the full extent of the tragedy, informing him only that Rakesh sustained severe injuries in an accident.

Efforts to bring Rakesh home are being coordinated by several groups:

  • The Saudi Arabia Telugu Association (SATA): Led by President Srinivas Macha, the association was alerted to the tragedy by a fellow worker, Dasari Srinivas.
  • Telangana NRI Advisory Council: Vice-chairman Manda Bheem Reddy is working alongside SATA to manage the logistics of transporting the body.

The family has formally reached out to the Consulate General of India in Jeddah, requesting financial assistance to cover essential costs, including:

  • Embalming and preservation services.
  • The purchase of a coffin and necessary documentation.
  • Transportation costs and an air ticket for Madhu Surakanti to accompany the remains home.

Regional Context and Security Concerns

This workplace fatality comes at a time of heightened regional security concerns. Recent Houthi strikes on Saudi infrastructure have impacted the area, including an attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. That specific incident resulted in the death of another Indian national, Mohammed Yousuf Ali, from Hyderabad.

Official support for the Rakesh family is being channeled through the Embassy of India in Riyadh and the Consulate General in Jeddah.
