Flight SG5111 was originally scheduled to depart Delhi at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, with an arrival at Dubai Terminal 1 at 11:15 a.m. Flight SG5105 was slated to depart at 10:10 p.m. Monday, arriving at 12:55 a.m. on Tuesday. As rescheduling continued, passengers voiced their grievances at the airport, prompting coordination between airport officials and SpiceJet executives. Travelers impacted by the disruption include those with pre-planned job reporting, residence-related appointments, onward connections, hotel bookings, or family pickups in the UAE.
SpiceJet issued an apology on Tuesday, citing operational challenges and the need to arrange alternate flights for the affected passengers. The airline stated it is working to minimize inconvenience. According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation's Passenger Charter and DGCA framework, passengers on flights with a block time between 2.5 and 5 hours are entitled to free meals and refreshments if the delay exceeds three hours. For flight SG5105, which was scheduled during the 8:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. window, airline policy stipulates that hotel accommodation should be provided if the delay exceeds six hours. Passengers are advised to secure written confirmation for rebooking, hotel arrangements, and baggage status, and to monitor official flight status updates via the airline's channels or the AirSewa grievance portal.
