Sohar Hospital Street to Get Dual Carriageway Upgrade in 2027

The North Al Batinah Municipality has confirmed that the upgrade of Western Hospital Street in Wilayat Sohar to a dual carriageway is officially slated for 2027.
In an official response, the municipality stated that the project has been formally included in the governorate's project matrix for 2027. While specific start dates, budgets, or project lengths have not yet been disclosed, the design for the road expansion is already complete.
Easing Congestion Near Sohar Hospital
The primary objective of the expansion is to increase the street's overall capacity. Currently, the road operates as a single carriageway, which frequently leads to significant traffic delays. These bottlenecks particularly impact:
- Emergency medical access to the critical 24-hour Sohar Hospital facility.
- Shift workers commuting to and from the area.
- Delivery transport servicing the nearby industrial zones.
Sohar Hospital, located in the Muwaileh area near the industrial city, is a vital healthcare hub with a capacity of approximately 825 beds.
Project Status and Clarifications
Although the design is ready, administrative procedures are still underway to prepare for the official tender process. Commuters are advised that the road currently remains open, and there are no announced diversions at this stage. Residents are encouraged to monitor local municipality channels for future tender notices or potential lane closures.
It is important to note that this initiative is distinct from a separate project managed by the Ministry of Transport. That project involves a 9-kilometer dual-carriageway linking the Sohar junction with the Al Batinah Expressway bridge.
