Sharjah Horror: Karnataka Expat Found Dismembered; Wife and Son Still Missing
A gruesome discovery on a road leading toward Oman has sent shockwaves through the expatriate community, revealing a brutal crime that has left a family in Karnataka searching for answers. Alwin Prakash Kunder, a long-term resident of Sharjah who had worked at the airport for 14 years, was found murdered and dismembered in a discovery that has raised intense questions about safety and justice.
A Brutal Discovery in the Desert
The investigation took a horrific turn on August 12, when Sharjah Police located Alwin's abandoned vehicle. Inside the boot of the car, authorities discovered two bags containing the victim's remains. The evidence presented was chilling: Alwin had been stabbed in the chest and his body had been cut into nine separate pieces. The identity of the remains was eventually confirmed through DNA testing conducted by his elder son.
The Digital Red Flags
The mystery began to unravel through a series of suspicious communications. Alwin's brother, Anil Prashanth Kunder, first grew concerned on July 20 after receiving a text message from Alwin. The message was highly unusual because Alwin, who typically relied on voice notes to communicate, had suddenly switched to plain text.
As weeks passed without contact, family members sought information from Alwin's employer and housing management. While initial reports suggested he might have traveled back to India, passport records proved otherwise, showing no record of him leaving the country. This discrepancy prompted the filing of an official missing-person complaint in Sharjah.
A Family Vanished
The tragedy is compounded by the fact that Alwin was not the only one missing. His wife, Tina Kunder, a schoolteacher from Udyavara, and their teenage son, a student in Dubai, have both been unaccounted for since late July.
Evidence from the family's apartment complex has added a layer of suspicion to the disappearance. CCTV footage captured during the period of July 26 to July 27 reportedly shows:
- Two men and one woman moving luggage out of the premises.
While Sharjah Police have issued a death certificate for Alwin, they have not yet released a formal First Information Report (FIR) or identified a specific motive for the crime. Furthermore, no suspects have been named in connection with the killings.
Calls for Government Intervention
In the face of mounting uncertainty, Alwin's brother has formally petitioned the Udupi Superintendent of Police. He is seeking more direct intervention from the Indian government to help resolve the case and locate the missing family members.
The incident has reignited discussions regarding the security of Indian expatriates living within the GCC. Despite the presence of 24/7 helplines and Pravasi Bharatiya Sahayata Kendras managed by Indian missions in the UAE, the Kunder family remains without any clarity regarding the whereabouts of Tina Kunder and their son.
