Saudi Cuts Umrah Visa Entry Window to Just 30 Days

The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has announced a significant revision to its visa regulations, shortening the timeframe allowed for pilgrims to enter the Kingdom after their Umrah visa has been issued.

Under this new policy, travelers now have a 30-day window from the date of visa issuance to enter Saudi Arabia. If the visa is not utilized for entry within this specific period, it will be automatically cancelled.

Stay Duration Remains Unchanged

While the window to enter the country has been tightened, the authorized duration of stay for pilgrims once they have arrived in the Kingdom remains the same. Travelers can still stay for up to 90 days under the current regulations.

Managing Massive Pilgrim Volumes

The adjustment comes as the Kingdom manages an unprecedented surge in religious tourism. Since the current season began in June, more than 4 million Umrah visas have been issued. The Ministry aims to use this new rule to:

  • Improve the flow of pilgrims through entry points.
  • Manage the high volume of visitors more efficiently.
  • Align with the 1446 AH guidelines provided by the official Hajj portal.

Crucial Advice for Travelers

This policy shift has particular implications for pilgrims traveling from India and those residing across the GCC. Because the entry window is now much tighter, any unforeseen circumstances—such as flight delays or sudden itinerary changes—could result in a lapsed visa.

To avoid the risk of visa cancellation, experts and stakeholders recommend the following steps:

  1. Confirm flight arrangements first: Do not initiate the visa application process until your travel dates are firmly secured.
  2. Use official platforms: Apply through the authorized Nusuk or Visit Saudi platforms.
  3. Coordinate with service providers: Travel agents, airlines, and hospitality providers in Makkah and Madinah are expected to work more closely with pilgrims to ensure seamless transitions.
