Saudi Defenses Neutralize Houthi Missile Strikes Targeting Taif and Yanbu Port
Saudi Arabia’s air defense systems successfully intercepted and destroyed six Iranian-backed Houthi ballistic missiles on Thursday, September 25, 2026. The missiles were reportedly aimed at the city of Taif and the critical Red Sea oil port of Yanbu.
The sudden barrage triggered emergency sirens across several major regions, including Makkah, Jeddah, and Tabuk, as the kingdom moved to intercept the incoming threats.

Despite the intensity of the attack, Coalition spokesman Maj. Gen. Turki al-Malki confirmed that the interceptions were successful. He reported that there were no major casualties and no confirmed hits on critical infrastructure during the engagement.
However, Houthi forces have presented a different narrative. They claimed to have launched dozens of missiles and drones at Jazan and alleged successful strikes against:
- A sensitive target located in Riyadh
- Aramco facilities within the Yanbu region
Saudi authorities have officially rejected these claims, categorizing them as failed attempts to strike high-value targets.
Global Condemnation and Regional Fallout
The international community reacted swiftly to the escalation. The United Nations Security Council issued a formal condemnation on Friday, affirming Saudi Arabia's right to self-defense and calling for an immediate end to Houthi aggression.
Other major bodies, including the GCC, Qatar, and the Muslim World League, also released statements condemning the attacks. The GCC highlighted the scale of the ongoing conflict, noting that since February 28, 2026, Iran and its proxies have launched more than 7,000 ballistic missile and drone attacks against member states.
Military and Aviation Shifts
The regional instability has led to significant tactical and diplomatic changes:
- UAE Flight Suspensions: In response to the rising tensions and U.S. sanctions, the UAE suspended all flights from Iranian airlines on Thursday.
- French Military Deployment: France has announced it will deploy military assets to assist in the protection of the Yanbu area.
"The responsibility lies with Iran to de-escalate the situation," stated GCC Secretary-General Jasem Albudaiwi.
