Saudi Arabia Fast-Tracks Family Visas for Skilled Workers
Highly skilled workers in Saudi Arabia can now apply for family visas alongside their work visas to ease the relocation process.

Saudi Arabia has introduced a major policy shift designed to simplify the relocation process for high-skilled expatriates. Under a new directive that officially came into effect on October 6, 2026, highly skilled foreign workers—including many Indian nationals—can now apply for entry visas for their family members at the same time they process their own work visas.
Ending the Sequential Wait
Previously, the process for bringing families to the Kingdom was a multi-step, sequential journey. Expatriates were required to fully complete their employment and residency procedures, including the acquisition of a 'yellow slip,' before they could even begin the application process for their dependents.
The new framework introduces parallel processing, allowing applications to move forward simultaneously. This coordinated effort is being managed through the collaboration of three key government entities:
- The Ministry of Interior
- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs
- The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development
By streamlining these procedures, the Kingdom aims to improve the overall quality of life for the international talent it seeks to attract.
Who is Eligible for Concurrent Processing?
The policy is specifically tailored to support the immediate families of high-skilled professionals. The following family members are eligible to be included in the concurrent visa application process:
- The worker's spouse
- Unmarried daughters
- Sons under the age of 25
Important Legal Requirements
While the new rules allow for entry visas to be secured during the initial work visa stage, there are still essential steps to follow once the family arrives. The formal issuance of residence permits, or Iqama, for family members remains contingent upon their physical arrival in the Kingdom and strict adherence to local legal formalities.
Authorities are currently working to finalize the specific procedural details of this rollout. This includes establishing the official definition of 'highly skilled' workers and clarifying the exact application mechanisms through digital platforms such as Absher.
