Earlier on Tuesday, Saudi authorities had issued security alerts for Mecca, Jeddah, and Taif, following a week of Houthi barrages that
wounded 13 civilians and damaged homes in Khamis Mushait, Abha, and Taif. While Houthi political bureau member Mohammed al-Farah denied the attempt, branding the accusations a lie, Saudi officials remain convinced of Iranian involvement through the IRGC-trained fighters who recently seized Yemen's Red Sea coast and the Bab al-Mandab Strait.
The security situation is compounded by a drone strike on the East-West oil pipeline near Yanbu last Friday, which prompted a temporary shutdown.
U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright stated the pipeline is expected to resume operations within days. Additionally, planned Oman-hosted talks regarding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz have been postponed. The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation has formally condemned the violation of the holy site's sanctity. In response to the escalation, Saudi-led coalition jets have launched dozens of strikes across Houthi-held Yemen, contributing to rising displacement numbers and fluctuating oil prices as regional shipping lanes face renewed threats.
