Salmiya Restaurant Raid: 114kg of Adulterated Food Destroyed

Authorities in Kuwait have uncovered a major food safety breach in Salmiya, where a restaurant was caught operating illegally despite a previous order to shut down. During a massive crackdown, officials seized and destroyed 114 kilograms of adulterated food products.

The operation was carried out by the General Department of Criminal Investigation, working alongside the Hawally Governorate Investigation Department, the Salmiya Criminal Investigation, and the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition. The raid targeted both the restaurant and a linked food warehouse following reports of illicit sales and improper food storage.

Widespread Health and Licensing Violations

The inspection was highly productive for authorities, resulting in the documentation of 18 distinct violation reports. The establishment was found to be in gross violation of several regulations, including:

  • Operating after license cancellation or following an expiration.
  • Failure to maintain a valid health license for the premises.
  • Unauthorized expansion of the facility beyond its legally permitted space.
  • Failure to meet technical and health standards essential for food safety.

Adulterated Goods and Uncertified Staff

The most significant find involved the discovery of adulterated food products. These items, which were reportedly sourced from unknown origins, posed a direct threat to consumers. In response, inspectors confiscated the 114 kilograms of tainted food and moved to have it destroyed immediately.

The raid also highlighted issues with personnel management. Out of 11 workers identified as violators, eight were found to be operating without the mandatory health certificates required for handling food. While the scale of the violations has been confirmed, authorities have not yet released the specific name of the restaurant
