Riyadh Under Fire: Houthi Missile Hits Fuel Depot Near Major Airport
Panic gripped the Saudi capital on Saturday morning as air-raid sirens echoed through the streets of Riyadh. A ballistic missile strike targeted a vital fuel depot located in close proximity to King Khalid International Airport, causing a massive fire to erupt within an Aramco storage tank.
A Direct Hit on Critical Infrastructure
The strike, which marks the first Houthi-claimed attack on the Saudi capital since the escalation began in July, has sent shockwaves through the region. While official casualty numbers have not been released, the impact on the city's infrastructure was immediate. Smoke was seen billowing from the fuel storage area near the international airport, as documented on 19 September 2026.
The Houthi military spokesman, Yahya Saree, officially claimed responsibility for the operation. According to Saree, the group conducted two separate strikes involving a combination of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones. These operations targeted sensitive locations in Riyadh as well as Aramco facilities located in the Red Sea export hub of Yanbu.
Saudi Interceptions and Thwarted Attacks
The Saudi-led coalition responded to the barrage, confirming that they successfully intercepted a ballistic missile aimed at Riyadh. In addition to the
