Candidates who pass the exam before arriving in the country will not be required to retake it upon arrival, allowing employers to proceed directly to the professional practice license application process. The Ministry emphasized that passing this exam does not guarantee employment, a work visa, or entry into Qatar, as standard recruitment and QID formalities remain unchanged.

Currently, the overseas Food Handler Licensing Examination is optional and not a mandatory legal requirement for recruitment. The programme covers a wide range of roles including food store keepers, cleaners, chef stewards, cooks/commis de cuisine, chefs de partie, supervisors, waiters, persons-in-charge, executive chefs, food factory supervisors, and production-line food handlers. Exams consist of multiple-choice questions in English or Arabic, tailored to specific job responsibilities. For instance, store keepers face questions on stock rotation and storage, while chefs are tested on food preparation and hygiene. Persons-in-charge are assessed on supervision and compliance. Despite passing the exam, the professional practice license can only be issued once the candidate holds a valid Qatar ID. The standard sequence involves registration in WATHEQ, passing the exam, completing immigration formalities, receiving a QID, and finally the employer paying the fees for the license.
Candidates are cautioned against agents promising job guarantees upon passing the exam. The Food Handler Licensing Programme, launched in 2021, has already licensed 10,630 workers. This expansion aims to assess food safety competency before arrival, reducing post-recruitment training time for the hospitality and catering sectors. Candidates are urged to verify exam fees directly through the official Prometric portal, as no universal fee has been declared.
