Oman Takes Legal Action After Viral Sea Turtle Harassment Video

The Environment Authority of Oman has launched legal proceedings against a tourist following the circulation of a video showing the harassment of nesting sea turtles. The footage, which went viral on social media, captured an individual sitting on the back of an adult sea turtle while simultaneously holding a hatchling.

The incident took place at Ras Al Hadd, located in the South Sharqiyah Governorate, which is recognized as an internationally significant nesting site. In response to the evidence, the Environment Authority confirmed it is invoking the Sultanate's wildlife protection laws to address the violation, maintaining a zero-tolerance policy toward activities that threaten indigenous wildlife or natural habitats.
