Oman Launches Online Work Permit Service for 9 Professions

The Oman Ministry of Labour has introduced a new digital service for special work permits, allowing expatriate employers to apply for specific professional roles entirely online.
This initiative is designed to streamline the application process for expatriate families and employers, removing the need for time-consuming physical visits to government offices. Applications can now be submitted through the Ministry of Labour’s official electronic portal (mol.gov.om) or via Sanad service centers.
Nine Professions Now Eligible for Digital Permits
The new online service specifically targets nine professional categories. This digital transition aims to accelerate the hiring process for roles that are frequently required by expatriate households and specialized sectors. The eligible professions include:
- Domestic workers and nannies
- Private drivers and gardeners
- Residential building guards
- Home health assistants and private nurses
- Agricultural workers
- Craft fishermen
Fast-Track Processing Times
One of the most significant benefits of the new system is the speed of service. According to officials, once an application is submitted with all the required and complete documentation, the processing and approval period typically takes between one and 10 days.
Updated Fee Structure for Special Permits
The Ministry has also clarified the fee structure associated with these special permits, which varies depending on the profession and the number of employees being hired:
- Domestic and Home-Based Roles: For hiring domestic workers, nannies, private drivers, gardeners, residential guards, home health assistants, and private nurses, the fee is
