Switch Telecom Providers Easily In Oman Discover Friendly New Rules

Oman has a brand-new rule that lets people switch their phone and landline companies without losing their current numbers. The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) released this new framework, which replaces the old 2008 rules and becomes effective the day after its publication in the Official Gazette.

  • Switch telecom providers without changing numbers
  • Current providers cannot block or make counter-offers
  • Apply through your new provider to start

How The Process Works

Customers must apply through the provider they wish to join to start a porting request. The new provider checks the customer identity, gets clear consent, and follows TRA technical rules in a set time. The process uses the Central Number Portability System started in 2025 to automate and standardize transfers. Customers can transfer their numbers many times between providers. Unauthorized porting is completely banned, and wrong transfers can be canceled to return numbers to the original provider.

Bills And Operator Rules

The regulation protects the rights of previous providers to collect unpaid money or contract duties. Operators must give a secure electronic way for customers to pay debts. If you do not pay after a transfer, your service might be suspended. Operators cannot use customer data from the porting process for anything else without TRA permission. Licensed telecom operators must connect their systems to the Central Number Portability System within 90 days of launching public telecom services. For every successful transfer, the receiving provider pays RO1.5 to the TRA and RO1.5 to the donor provider.

What This Means For You

This rule is very important for Indian expats and families in Oman. It helps keep the same connection for banking, government apps, and personal calls while looking for better network quality or prices. Customers should check unpaid bills and contract terms before starting a transfer. Keep your old service active until you get confirmation.
