Massive Win for Workers: Abu Dhabi Court Secures Dh 7.8M in Unpaid Wages

The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) has achieved a significant victory for the workforce, successfully recovering Dh 7,811,933 in unpaid wages and financial entitlements. This massive recovery stems from three collective labor cases involving 948 workers, all resolved within a three-month period.
Breaking Down the Recovery
While the total value of the claims filed amounted to Dh 12.3 million, the court has successfully secured Dh 7.81 million to date. The distribution of these recovered funds has been handled as follows:
- 457 employees have received their full outstanding payments.
- 491 employees have received partial payments, with the remaining balances set to be paid in installments.
A Collaborative Approach to Justice
These successful recoveries were made possible through a coordinated effort involving the courts, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE), and dedicated enforcement teams. By utilizing judicial deposits and facilitating amicable settlements, the authorities were able to expedite the process.
Crucially, the court’s intervention ensured that these employees were able to retain their jobs, successfully preventing the terminations that often follow intense labor disputes.
UAE's Rapidly Evolving Labor Landscape
This success reflects a broader trend of efficient dispute resolution across the UAE. According to MoHRE, a staggering 98.6% of the 185,793 labor disputes reported in the first half of 2026 were resolved through mediation.
To manage the workload effectively, current regulations follow a specific threshold:
- Claims up to Dh 50,000: MoHRE has the authority to resolve these claims without the need for court intervention.
- Claims exceeding Dh 50,000: These cases are escalated to the Labor Court for formal proceedings.
The scale of these judicial efforts is highlighted by historical data from 2025, when the Abu Dhabi Labor Court facilitated payments totaling AED 309 million to 12,536 different workers.
Essential Advice for Employees
To ensure their rights are protected in the event of a dispute, officials advise all workers to follow these critical steps:
- Maintain meticulous records: Always keep copies of your employment contracts and salary slips.
- Act quickly: Register any formal complaints through the MoHRE application within 14 days of a dispute arising.
