Kuwaiti authorities have issued a strict warning for travelers. On September 16, 2026, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior issued a stern warning to all citizens and residents traveling into or out of the country, advising them to strictly avoid carrying bags, parcels, packets, boxes, or any items belonging to other individuals.
This advisory follows the interception of three separate travelers found in possession of packages containing narcotics and psychotropic substances disguised as medication. In their initial investigations, the apprehended travelers claimed they were transporting the items for acquaintances and believed the containers held legitimate medicine. Despite these claims, the individuals and the seized contraband were transferred to the appropriate authorities for legal proceedings and further investigation.
The Ministry emphasized that
legal accountability rests with the person in possession of the items at the border or airport, regardless of whether the individual is a friend, colleague, or relative. The authorities highlighted that smugglers are increasingly exploiting unsuspecting travelers to move prohibited substances, and stressed that personal relationships do not mitigate the severe legal risks involved.
Travelers are urged to verify the contents of their own luggage, avoid accepting any third-party parcels, and refrain from leaving baggage unattended. Specifically, regarding medication, travelers should only carry their own prescription drugs in original packaging, accompanied by valid medical documentation, and ensure the items are not restricted in Kuwait. The Ministry concluded that any suspicious packages should be reported to airport security or airline officials for clarification rather than being transported.
