Kuwait Launches 'Teach Me Islam' Digital Service for Expats

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has officially rolled out the "Teach Me Islam" (Allamni Al-Islam) service, a new digital initiative integrated into the government’s Sahel application. This move aims to provide a streamlined platform for non-Muslim sponsored individuals—known as makfulin—and other interested parties to inquire about and study the fundamental principles and teachings of Islam.
Digital Religious Outreach via Sahel App
The service is designed to make religious education more accessible by allowing users to submit requests directly through the Sahel app. Once a request is lodged, the platform facilitates contact with the ministry’s relevant department, ensuring that users receive direct guidance and accurate answers to their questions.
This launch is a central part of a broader government movement to digitize religious outreach and education, moving traditional learning methods into the modern digital era.
Targeting the Expatriate Population
The initiative is specifically aimed at the diverse expatriate community living in Kuwait. By leveraging technology, the ministry intends to reach a wide range of residents, particularly those from:
- India
- Pakistan
- Bangladesh
- The Philippines
To ensure the service is inclusive and easy to navigate for international communities, the platform is available in English. Furthermore, by using the existing Sahel app infrastructure—which many expats already rely on for essential residency and civil identification tasks—the ministry has ensured the service is highly accessible.
Promoting Tolerance and Moderation
Minister Dr. Mohammed Al-Wasmi emphasized that the launch represents the ministry's dedication to using modern technology to spread core Islamic values. He noted that the digital service is intended to promote:
- Tolerance
- Compassion
- Moderation
The initiative seeks to reach the widest possible audience by making religious education accessible through user-friendly digital channels.
