Kuwait Fire Force Shuts 90 Establishments Over Safety Violations

The Kuwait General Fire Force has carried out a major enforcement operation in the Capital Governorate, resulting in the immediate administrative closure of 90 establishments.
The crackdown, which took place on the evening of Tuesday, October 6, 2026, targeted various commercial buildings and facilities that failed to meet essential fire safety regulations. The inspection campaign covered several key areas, including Kuwait City, Sharq, Mirqab, Dasman, and the Mubarakiya belt.
Hundreds of Warnings Issued
In addition to the 90 facilities being shut down, the Fire Force issued formal notices and warnings to 208 other establishments. These businesses were found to be in non-compliance with safety protocols and have been instructed to rectify all deficiencies to avoid similar enforcement actions in the future.
Key Safety Standards Checked
The field inspection campaign focused on verifying whether facilities were equipped to handle emergencies. Authorities specifically checked for:
- Functional fire extinguishers and alarm systems.
- Clear and unobstructed emergency exits.
- Safe and proper electrical wiring.
- The absence of unauthorized gas cylinders in commercial or residential units.
Impact on Local Businesses and Expats
The enforcement action affects a diverse range of sectors, including small businesses, workshops, warehouses, and residential flats. Many of these locations are frequently operated by expatriate workers from various South Asian and other nations.
To avoid closure, shop owners and facility managers are strongly advised to maintain valid fire safety certificates and ensure that clear emergency exit plans are prominently displayed on their premises.
