Kuwait Ends Automatic Visa Extensions and Updates Residency Laws
The Kuwaiti Ministry of Interior has announced a significant shift in Kuwait visa residency rules, officially terminating all automatic visa and exit permit extensions as of September 1, 2026. This move means that all residency permits (iqama) and visas must now strictly follow their legal expiration dates without exception.
Strict Compliance and Overstay Risks
Authorities have warned that any individual who failed to depart the country by the August 31, 2026, deadline may now face potential deportation and heavy fines for overstaying. To avoid legal complications, residents are strongly advised to verify their current legal status via the Sahel app or the official Ministry of Interior portal.
The Ministry also issued a specific reminder regarding domestic workers. If a domestic worker remains outside of Kuwait for more than four months without obtaining explicit authorization from the residency department, their permit may be subject to cancellation.
New 10-Year Residency for Revoked Citizens
Under the new Ministerial Decision 1410/2026, which introduces Article 7 bis to existing residency laws, a new residency pathway has been established for a specific group of residents. Individuals whose Kuwaiti citizenship was revoked under Article 13, Clause 4 of the 1959 Nationality Law are now eligible for residency permits lasting up to 10 years, provided they hold another nationality.
