A 24-year-old Indian expatriate from Kerala lost his life in a devastating e-scooter accident in Fujairah last week, just weeks before he was set to marry.
Reswin Rasheed Thellikunnel, a resident of Marady in Muvattupuzha, Ernakulam, was returning home from his shift as a salesman at the Al Baik outlet in Fujairah City Centre when the incident occurred.
The Fatal Collision
According to Fujairah Police, the accident happened when an SUV, driven by a female Gulf national in her 50s, struck the young man. Reswin was pronounced dead at the scene, and his body was subsequently transferred to the Fujairah Hospital mortuary.
Police investigations revealed that the accident was caused by the victim crossing the road at a non-designated location, in violation of established traffic regulations.
A Life Cut Short
The tragedy has left a family in deep mourning. Reswin was preparing to travel back to Kerala in early November for his wedding, which was scheduled to take place in either November or December.
He is survived by his mother, Zeenath, and his siblings, Ramees and Fida. His father, Rasheed, is deceased. Arrangements are currently being made to repatriate his remains to Kerala.
Police Safety Warning
Following the collision, the driver of the SUV was taken into police custody, and the case has been referred to the Public Prosecution for further legal action.
Fujairah Police have used this incident to issue a stern reminder to all road users regarding safety. They urged e-scooter and bicycle riders to adhere to the following:
- Always use designated pedestrian crossings.
- Utilize all necessary protective equipment.
Authorities emphasized that they are continuing awareness campaigns and crackdowns on traffic violations to ensure safety as the use of electric micromobility devices continues to increase across the UAE.
