Jharkhand Man Imprisoned in Dubai After Agent Scam

A 23-year-old worker from Jharkhand finds himself trapped behind bars in Dubai, a victim of a fraudulent agent and a series of legal complications that began with a simple desire to return home for a family celebration.

A Desperate Attempt to Return Home

Shashi Kumar Paswan, a resident of Dadra village in the Palamu district, moved to the United Arab Emirates in 2025 to work as a technical helper. His life took a drastic turn when he attempted to travel back to India to attend his sister’s wedding, which was scheduled for June 26.

In his haste to expedite his travel, Paswan reportedly left his job without providing the required notice, resulting in a seven-day absence from his workplace. To navigate the resulting legal hurdles, he turned to an agent, paying him to assist with his departure. Instead of securing his freedom, this decision led to severe legal consequences.

The attempt to bypass standard procedures triggered a chain reaction of legal troubles, including potential absconding reports and criminal charges related to his employment status. Adding to the complexity, the agent Paswan hired has also been detained by authorities in connection with a separate investigation involving Telegram.

Paswan has now spent the last four months in Al Rashidiya jail in Dubai. His legal status remains precarious as he faces the fallout of his employment breach and the scam that left him stranded.

Family Pleads for Government Intervention

Back in India, the family of the detained worker is fighting a desperate battle for his release. On Monday, October 26, 2026, Lalan Paswan, the detainee's father, filed a formal application at the Hussainabad police station after waiting months for news of his son.

Palamu Superintendent of Police, Kapil Choudhary, confirmed that the application has been forwarded to higher authorities for further action. Meanwhile, Shashi's wife, Sumitra, has issued a public appeal, calling upon the Indian government and the Indian Embassy in the UAE to provide the necessary legal assistance to bring her husband home.

Current Status

As of October 30, 2026, Shashi Kumar Paswan remains incarcerated. Despite his Emirates ID verifying his status as a legal resident worker, the intersection of labor disputes and fraudulent practices has left him in a legal limbo.
