Jharkhand Man Detained in Dubai for Four Months After Absconding Report
A 23-year-old worker from Jharkhand has been detained in Dubai for four months following an absconding report filed by his employer.

A 23-year-old technical helper from Jharkhand, Shashi Kumar Paswan, has been detained in a Dubai jail for four months following an "absconding" report filed by his employer.
Paswan, a resident of Dadra village in the Hussainabad area of Palamu district, had moved to the UAE in 2025 under a private company contract that was scheduled to remain valid until September 2027.
The Absconding Report and Legal Implications
The legal complications arose after Paswan failed to report to his workplace for seven consecutive days. This triggered an "absconding" report (Unexpected Work Abandonment) filed by his employer with the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE).
According to Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 and Ministerial Resolution No. 47 of 2022, employers are permitted to file such reports, which can lead to the cancellation of work permits and potential police action for unauthorized absences exceeding a seven-day period.
A Failed Plan to Attend a Family Wedding
Family members revealed that Paswan's absence was not a deliberate attempt to abandon his job, but rather a desperate attempt to return home for his younger sister's wedding, which is scheduled for June 26, 2026.
After facing difficulties in obtaining formal permission from his employer to travel, Paswan reportedly engaged a travel agent to facilitate his exit from the country. However, this move resulted in further complications:
- The travel agent has also been detained in connection with a separate Telegram-related case.
- Paswan's passport was recovered from the possession of the detained agent.
Family Seeks Indian Government Intervention
While initial reports suggested Paswan was being held in Al Rashidiya jail, some accounts indicate he may be in Abu Dhabi. The family was previously led to believe he would be released within 10 to 15 days of surrendering, but those assurances have not been met.
In light of the prolonged detention, his father, Lalan Paswan, has filed a formal complaint at the Hussainabad police station. Palamu SP Kapil Choudhary has confirmed the receipt of the complaint.
The family is now making urgent appeals to the Indian government to intervene and secure the release of their son.
