Indian Seafarer Killed in Violent Attack on Bulk Carrier Near Oman
A tragic maritime attack near the Musandam coast of Oman has claimed the life of a young Indian crew member. Suraj Yadav, a 26-year-old wiper from Deoria, Uttar Pradesh, was killed on September 23, 2026, during a strike on the MV Cape Dao.
Details of the Maritime Strike
The MV Cape Dao, an Antigua and Barbuda-flagged bulk carrier, was transiting from Mina Saqr, UAE, toward India when it was hit twice on its port side. The strikes impacted critical areas, including the engine room and the C-deck accommodation. Following the impact, a fire broke out on the vessel, necessitating an emergency evacuation coordinated by Oman's Royal Navy and the Maritime Security Centre.
While the exact identity of the attackers remains unconfirmed, maritime reports suggest the vessel may have been targeted by missiles or torpedoes.
Casualties and Crew Discrepancies
Union Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has confirmed that Yadav died as a result of head injuries sustained during the attack. The Indian Embassy in Muscat is currently working with Omani authorities to manage the repatriation of the victim's body.
