A violent strike by Houthi rebels on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam has claimed the life of an Indian national and left two others injured. The attack, which occurred on October 21, is part of an intensification of Houthi strikes targeting civilian and energy infrastructure across Saudi Arabia.

Escalating Attacks on Saudi Infrastructure

This latest tragedy follows a series of recent strikes that have heightened security concerns across the Kingdom. The targeting of key locations has resulted in multiple casualties among the expatriate community:

  • Riyadh Strike: An attack on October 10 resulted in the death of one Indian national.
  • Shaybah Incident: A separate strike on October 21 left an Indian national injured.
  • Dammam Airport: The most recent strike on October 21, which caused one fatality and two injuries.

Mass Evacuations and Travel Disruptions

In response to the escalating security situation, Saudi authorities have taken significant steps to protect personnel and critical assets. This includes the evacuation of the Aramco headquarters in Dhahran. Additionally, the instability has caused major disruptions to travel, with various flight operations being suspended across the region.

Indian Embassy Coordinates Relief Efforts

The Indian Embassy in Riyadh, in coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), is actively assisting the victims and their families. On October 23, the mission confirmed via social media that it is in active contact with the families and is managing the coordination for the transport of remains. While some of the injured individuals have already been discharged from medical facilities, the situation remains under close watch.

The Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) has officially confirmed the fatalities. With approximately 2.74 million Indian nationals currently residing in Saudi Arabia, the safety of the diaspora remains a critical concern amid rising regional security risks and potential volatility in the oil markets.
