Office Rules And Limits
It is critical to note that the proposed facility will function exclusively as a representative office, not a full-service bank branch. Consequently, under UAE Central Bank regulations, the office will be prohibited from accepting cash deposits, opening new bank accounts, sanctioning loans or advances, executing general banking transactions such as Letters of Credit or Letters of Guarantee, and engaging in foreign currency dealing. The primary mandate of the office will be to represent the bank, provide market intelligence, facilitate communication with customers, and offer consultation regarding banking services.
Other Global Locations
Indian Bank, which currently operates an international branch in Singapore, branches in Colombo and Jaffna, Sri Lanka, and an IFSC Banking Unit in GIFT City, Gandhinagar, is also exploring opportunities in Malaysia and Indonesia. While the Dubai plan is approved, no official date, specific location, or launch timeline has been announced.
Support For Current Customers
For existing customers in the UAE, the bank currently provides services such as NRE/NRO accounts, FCNR(B) deposits, NRI home loans, and remittance facilities through its India-based branches and digital platforms. Customers are encouraged to continue using official channels, including the dedicated NRI toll-free support number 800035702688, as the new representative office will not handle direct retail banking transactions. The bank advises customers to disregard any unofficial sources until an official announcement is made regarding the operational status and regulatory scope of the Dubai office.
