Pandey, who worked as a ground staff operator, was the sole provider for his family. He leaves behind his wife, Sunita, and two daughters, 14-year-old Tanvi and 10-year-old Tanya. His brother, Mukesh, confirmed that Kamlesh had been working in Saudi Arabia for a period of three to five years.

The attack at the Dammam airport was not limited to Pandey; it also claimed the life of a Saudi airport worker and resulted in injuries to several others, including two Indian nationals. This tragedy follows a series of violent escalations targeting Indian citizens in the Gulf:

  • Riyadh Airport Attack: On October 10, 2026, a Houthi missile strike at Riyadh’s King Khalid International Airport killed 13 people, including 46-year-old Mohammed Yousuf Ali from Hyderabad. The strike also left his two sons severely injured.
  • Oman Tanker Incident: Two Indian sailors, Amit Singh and Bir Bahadur Yadav, remain missing following a drone attack on the Nicaragua-flagged tanker MT Petro Dolphin at Sohar Anchorage in Oman on October 11.

Travel Disruptions and Government Action

The escalating security threat has had an immediate impact on regional travel. Major airlines, including Air India and IndiGo, have suspended all flights to Riyadh, Jeddah, and Dammam through at least October 24.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs has condemned these attacks and activated 24x7 helplines to support citizens in distress. The Indian Embassy in Riyadh has officially confirmed Pandey's death and is working closely with local authorities in Bansgaon to facilitate the repatriation of his remains. Meanwhile, the Embassy is advising all Indian expatriates in the region to strictly adhere to Saudi security protocols.
