Flydubai Pilot Terror Plot Under Investigation

Authorities are launching a massive multi-national investigation following an alleged attempted terror attack aboard a flydubai flight on September 30, 2026. The incident, which occurred during flight FZ1073 en route from Dubai to Tel Aviv, involved a high-stakes struggle in the cockpit that nearly resulted in a catastrophic crash.

The aircraft, carrying more than 170 passengers, was reportedly the target of a calculated plot by the Omani co-pilot, Hammam al-Hammami. Investigators allege that the co-pilot intended to kill the flight's commander, Captain Smit Machchhar, and deliberately crash the aircraft into a building in Tel Aviv.

Violence in the Cockpit

The situation turned violent when al-Hammami allegedly used a cockpit emergency crash axe to assault Captain Machchhar. UAE Attorney General Hamad Saif Al Shamsi confirmed the assault, noting that the co-pilot's actions were part of a larger attempt to hijack the plane's trajectory.

After the initial failed attempt to kill the captain, reports suggest the co-pilot tried to disable the engines by setting the aircraft's fuel switches to the "Cutoff" position. The struggle led to a terrifying moment for those on board as the plane suddenly descended approximately 14,000 feet in less than a minute, with the rudder reportedly sustaining structural damage during the descent.

Heroic Intervention and Emergency Landing

As the aircraft declared emergency codes 7700 and 7500, the situation was stabilized by the bravery of those on board. Passengers and off-duty crew members intervened to gain access to the flight deck, preventing the co-pilot from completing his intended mission.

The flight was successfully diverted to Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, where it landed safely. While the aircraft was secured, the impact of the event left the crew and passengers shaken.

International Recognition for Captain Machchhar

Captain Smit Machchhar, a Dubai-based Indian national, is currently recovering from his injuries in an Abu Dhabi hospital. His quick thinking and resilience have been hailed as heroic by world leaders.

On October 2, 2026, Dubai Crown Prince and UAE Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed visited the captain to offer his support. Furthermore, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke with Machchhar on October 3, honoring him as a hero and extending a special invitation for the captain to attend Israel's Independence Day ceremony in May 2027 alongside Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Security Audits and Global Probe

The incident has triggered significant regulatory responses. Israel's transport minister has reportedly ordered an immediate halt to flydubai's operations in Israel while a comprehensive audit of aviation security protocols is conducted.

The investigation into al-Hammami is now a global effort involving authorities from the UAE, India, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Oman, and Australia. Al-Hammami, who had been employed by flydubai for approximately nine months, was allegedly previously barred from flying in Oman. While UAE prosecutors have officially classified the event as an attempted terrorist act, Prime Minister Netanyahu has suggested the suspect may have undergone radical indoctrination.
