Etihad Rail Bans Alcohol and Vaping: New Fines Announced

Commuters traveling across the Emirates are facing a new set of strict regulations as Etihad Rail rolls out its updated Passenger Code of Conduct. The new rules, which apply to both train carriages and station premises, aim to maintain order and safety for all passengers using the network.
Whether you are a daily commuter or an expatriate traveling between major hubs like Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Fujairah, these guidelines are now in full effect and carry significant financial penalties for non-compliance.
Strict Penalties for Alcohol and Vaping
The updated charter leaves no room for error regarding prohibited substances. One of the most significant changes involves the possession of alcohol on the rail network.
Possessing alcoholic beverages is strictly forbidden on board, regardless of whether the items are sealed or were legally purchased. Those found in violation of this rule will be hit with a Dh200 fine.
Furthermore, the rail service has taken a hard stance on electronic smoking. The use of vapes, e-cigarettes, electronic shisha, or any other electronic smoking devices is completely banned within all stations and on all trains. Violators of this smoking ban face a much steeper penalty of Dh500.
Prohibited Items and Luggage Restrictions
In addition to the bans on substances, Etihad Rail has updated its list of items that are no longer permitted for transport on its services. To ensure smooth operations and passenger comfort, the following items are now banned:
- Bicycles
- E-scooters
- Oversized luggage
Travelers who are accustomed to transporting these items in private vehicles are strongly advised to adhere to these new regulations to avoid unexpected financial penalties during their travels.
