New Dubai Truck Traffic Bans to Start October 1

Dubai is set to implement sweeping new regulations regarding heavy vehicle movement to enhance road safety and streamline traffic flow across the emirate. Starting October 1, 2026, the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Police will enforce comprehensive truck restrictions that will significantly impact logistics, construction, and delivery operations.
With the city managing approximately 400,000 truck journeys every single day, authorities are taking decisive action to manage congestion. The new guidelines introduce varying levels of bans depending on the location and the time of day.
Strict 24-Hour and 16-Hour Bans
To protect major transit points and residential tranquility, certain areas will face total or near-total restrictions. The new rules include:
- 24-Hour Total Ban: Trucks are prohibited at all times on Al Qudra Street, Al Meydan Street, the Airport Tunnel, and all marine crossings and bridges.
- 16-Hour Daily Ban: From 6:00 am to 10:00 pm, heavy vehicles will be restricted on Sheikh Zayed Road (E11) and Beirut Street.
- Residential Restrictions: Major residential zones, including Al Mizhar, Muhaisnah, and Oud Al Muteena, will also observe the 16-hour daily ban to ensure resident safety and reduce noise.
Peak-Hour Restrictions on Major Arteries
In addition to the long-term bans, specific high-traffic corridors will face strict limitations during peak commuting windows. On Airport Street, Oman Street, Amman Street, and Damascus Street, as well as specific sections of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road (E311) between Ras Al Khor and the Sharjah border, trucks will be banned during the following times:
- 6:30 am – 8:30 am
- 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
- 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm
Note: Emirates Road (E611) will remain exempt from these restrictions, serving as the primary alternative corridor for long-haul and inter-emirate freight.
Permits and Compliance for Businesses
Recognizing that essential services may need to move during restricted hours, the RTA has established a formal process for exemptions. Companies requiring movement for critical operations must apply for a "Mobility Permit for Heavy Vehicles in Banned Times and Roads." These applications can be processed via the RTA website through the Right-of-Way (ROW) department.
Upgraded Infrastructure and Rest Stops
To discourage drivers from parking on highway shoulders or within residential streets, the RTA has significantly expanded its rest stop infrastructure. Currently, 14 of the 16 planned truck rest stops are complete, providing a total of 1,007 parking spaces. These facilities are strategically located at:
- Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road
- Emirates Road
- Dubai-Hatta Road
- Dubai-Al Ain Road
- Jebel Ali-Lehbab Road
- Al Awir Road
Looking ahead, the RTA is partnering with the private sector to develop four additional permanent rest areas. These future sites are intended to be comprehensive hubs, offering accommodation, prayer rooms, restaurants, retail outlets, and fuel services to support the logistics community.
