Dubai RTA Cuts Al Satwa Travel Times by 50% with New Intersection

Commuters in Dubai are set to enjoy significantly smoother journeys following a major infrastructure upgrade by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). The Al Satwa roundabout, a key junction located on 2nd December Street, has been officially converted into a modern, signal-controlled intersection.

Major Reductions in Traffic Congestion

The transformation is already delivering massive benefits for motorists and public transport users. According to the RTA, the new signalized system has resulted in a 50 percent reduction in overall journey times.

The impact is even more pronounced during the busiest parts of the day. During peak hours, the upgrade has successfully slashed waiting times and traffic queues by up to 60 percent, easing the daily struggle for thousands of residents navigating the area.

Enhanced Safety and Connectivity

Beyond increasing speed, the project focuses on improving the quality of life and safety for the local community. The new design offers several key improvements:

  • Improved Road Safety: Enhanced traffic management to mitigate accidents.
  • Better Pedestrian Access: Improved crossings for those traveling on foot.
  • Smoother Public Transport: Facilitating more efficient bus services.

Located on the vital 2nd December Street, this intersection serves as a critical artery connecting several major districts, including Al Satwa, Trade Centre, Al Bada, Al Jafiliya, Al Hudaiba, and Jumeirah, while also providing easier access to Sheikh Zayed Road.

A Boost for the Expat Community

Al Satwa is a bustling residential hub, home to a diverse population of Indian, Filipino, and other Asian expatriates who value the area's affordable housing and local amenities. For the large workforce residing in this district, the RTA's initiative means shorter commutes to work and greater convenience for daily errands and local activities.

This project is part of a wider road improvement strategy by the RTA, which also includes the development of the World Trade Centre Roundabout to further mitigate congestion across the city.
