Dubai Implements New Heavy Truck Peak-Hour Restrictions

Dubai has introduced new movement restrictions for heavy trucks during peak hours to manage traffic congestion and improve road safety. Effective from October 1, 2026, these regulations have been established by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in coordination with the Dubai Police General Headquarters.

Strictly Banned Routes and Times

The new regulations categorize road restrictions into three distinct levels based on the time of day and the specific location. Drivers must be aware of these changes to avoid significant penalties and ensure smooth logistics operations.

24-Hour Total Ban

Certain routes are completely closed to heavy vehicles at all times. These include:

  • Al Qudra Street
  • Al Meydan Street
  • All major crossings
  • The Airport Tunnel

16-Hour Daily Restrictions

A significant restriction is in place from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily on several major arteries and within specific residential zones. This applies to:

  • Sheikh Zayed Road
  • Beirut Street
  • Residential areas in Al Mizhar, Muhaisnah, and Oud Al Muteena

Specific Peak-Hour Windows

For Airport Street, Oman Street, and Damascus Street, trucks are restricted during three specific time slots to manage heavy traffic flow:

  1. Morning: 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
  2. Midday: 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  3. Evening: 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Exemptions and Logistics Support

To ensure that the city's logistics and transport operations—which involve approximately 400,000 truck trips daily—remain functional, Emirates Road has been designated as the primary bypass route and remains exempt from these restrictions. This is vital for maintaining movement across key zones such as Jebel Ali, Al Quoz, Dubai Industrial City, Al Awir, and Dubai South.

To support the heavy vehicle sector, the RTA has significantly expanded its infrastructure to accommodate the massive volume of trucks:

  • Increased Parking: Dedicated truck parking bays have increased by 50%,
