A Violent Mid-Air Assault
The terrifying event unfolded on September 30, 2026, during Flydubai flight FZ1073, which was transporting 174 passengers from Dubai to Tel Aviv. According to a statement from UAE Attorney General Dr. Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, the aircraft's Omani co-pilot, Hammam Al-Hamami, launched a sudden and violent attack within the cockpit.
Using a cockpit crash axe, the co-pilot struck Captain Machchhar from behind and attempted to seize control of the aircraft. During a video call, the captain explained that the flight initially appeared routine until the co-pilot asked to pray, after which the assault began.
