Indian Pilot Airlifted to Abu Dhabi After Cockpit Assault

Captain Smit Machchhar, an Indian pilot flying for flydubai, has been airlifted to Abu Dhabi for urgent medical care following a violent and life-threatening assault in the cockpit of his aircraft.
A Terrifying Mid-Air Emergency
The incident occurred on September 30, 2026, during flight FZ1073, which was en route from Dubai to Tel Aviv with 174 passengers on board. According to data cited by Gulf News and Flightradar24, the Boeing 737 experienced a sudden and dramatic descent, dropping over 14,000 feet in just 29 seconds.
The aircraft’s transponder signals indicated a severe crisis. The plane initially squawked 7700, signaling a general emergency, before switching to 7500—the specific code used to indicate unlawful interference. Due to the emergency, the flight was forced to divert to Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Airport in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia.
Heroic Resistance Amidst Chaos
As the situation escalated, the cockpit became a scene of extreme violence. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu alleged that the co-pilot, identified as an Omani national, stabbed Captain Machchhar and attempted to deliberately crash the plane.
