Bahrain Extends Transit Visa Stay to Four Days
Travelers transiting through Bahrain International Airport can now enjoy longer layovers thanks to a significant update in the kingdom's transit visa policy. The new regulations allow eligible passengers to remain in the country for up to four days, providing much-needed flexibility for those with extended wait times.
More Time for Long Layovers
Previously, transit limits were generally restricted to 24 or 72 hours. The extension to four days is designed to accommodate travelers with longer connections, particularly those flying via Gulf Air to or from major destinations such as Dubai, Doha, Riyadh, Bangkok, Kochi, and various European cities.
Who Is Eligible?
The policy applies specifically to individuals who qualify for Bahrain's visa-on-arrival service. This includes:
- Citizens from approximately 67 to 69 specific countries.
- Many GCC residents who hold valid residence permits.
Essential Requirements and Fees
To take advantage of this extended stay, passengers must meet certain criteria before clearing the immigration counter:
- A passport that is valid for at least six months.
- A confirmed onward ticket to a third destination.
The standard fee for this visa-on-arrival is approximately BHD 9 (roughly 24 USD), though travelers are advised to verify the exact cost based on their specific nationality upon arrival.
Important Warnings for Travelers
Authorities have emphasized that this is strictly a transit visa. It is not intended to function as a tourist or employment visa. Travelers are cautioned that overstaying the permitted four-day period may result in fines.
