New Bahrain Family Health Insurance Rules for Dependents

The Labor Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) has announced significant changes regarding Bahrain family health insurance. Starting in September 2026, all new applications for family and dependent residency permits will require mandatory health insurance coverage for all included members.
Under the previous regulations, health insurance requirements were primarily focused on the principal applicant or the employee. However, the new policy expands this scope, requiring that spouses and children also be covered under a valid insurance policy to secure their residency permits.
Strict Compliance Requirements
To ensure that residency applications are processed successfully, the LMRA has established several mandatory criteria for the new insurance policies:
- Licensed Providers: All health insurance must be issued by a provider that is officially licensed to operate within the Kingdom of Bahrain.
- Matching Validity: The duration of the insurance policy must align with the length of the requested residency permit. For example
