Bahrain Launches Major E-Scooter and Bicycle Crackdown

The Bahraini Ministry of Interior has announced the launch of an intensive field enforcement campaign targeting violations involving e-scooters and bicycles. The initiative, coordinated by the General Directorate of Traffic and regional police directorates, aims to curb dangerous riding practices across the kingdom.

Authorities are focusing their efforts on high-traffic areas, including Manama, Juffair, Seef, Riffa, and Isa Town. The crackdown is expected to heavily impact delivery personnel and expatriate workers who frequently utilize these modes of transport.

While specific regulations were established under Traffic Resolution No. 58/2026 in May 2026, the current campaign marks a significant shift toward active, on-the-ground enforcement. To ensure safety and avoid legal trouble, riders must comply with the following mandates:

  • Protective Gear: All riders are required to wear helmets and appropriate protective gear for their limbs.
  • Speed Limits: A maximum speed limit of 25 kilometers per hour must be strictly observed.
  • Designated Routes: E-scooters and bicycles must only be used on designated internal roads.
  • Prohibited Areas: Riding on highways, vehicle lanes, pavements, or road shoulders is strictly forbidden.
  • Traffic Direction: Riding against the flow of traffic is a prohibited violation.
  • Single Occupancy: E-scooters are limited to a single rider; carrying passengers is not allowed.
