Abu Dhabi Bans Car Washing in Mawaqif Parking and Villas

Abu Dhabi residents and car owners face new restrictions as authorities officially regulate vehicle washing activities in public spaces. Abu Dhabi Mobility, an entity under the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) and the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), has implemented a mandate prohibiting vehicle washing within Mawaqif public parking zones and residential villa areas.

New Restrictions in Mawaqif and Villa Areas

The new regulations, which came into effect on October 8, 2026, specifically target locations that utilize Mawaqif parking bays. This ban encompasses several major residential districts, including:

  • Khalifa City
  • Musaffah
  • Baniyas
  • Al Khalidiyah
  • Mohammed Bin Zayed City
  • Al Reem Island

While mobile car washing services are not entirely prohibited, they are now strictly restricted to authorized locations. Any service provider operating in the emirate must receive prior approval from the ITC and comply with established environmental and operational conditions.

Protecting the Environment and Infrastructure

The directive was introduced to address several critical concerns regarding the misuse of public infrastructure and environmental safety. By regulating these activities, authorities aim to:

  • Prevent environmental damage: Curb the discharge of water, shampoo, and various chemicals onto public roads and parking bays.
  • Stop unlicensed activity: Regulate and curb unlicensed commercial car washing activities in residential zones.
  • Protect infrastructure: Prevent the misuse of public parking infrastructure.

Enforcement and Compliance Guidelines

To ensure these rules are upheld, authorities including Q Mobility will be actively monitoring the affected areas. Vehicle owners and service providers are advised that non-compliance will lead to enforcement actions.

Residents should note the following guidelines regarding where they can and cannot wash their vehicles:

  • Private Property: Washing vehicles inside private property remains unaffected.
  • Shared Spaces: The use of buckets, hoses, and cleaning agents in shared villa parking bays is strictly prohibited.
  • Licensed Facilities: Residents who previously used informal car washers are now required to utilize licensed facilities, such as those located at petrol stations or shopping malls.

Permits and Official Inquiries

Companies seeking to offer vehicle washing services must obtain official permits from the ITC. For information regarding the application process or specific permit requirements, the following contact methods are available:
