Abu Dhabi E311 Speed Limit Cut to 100 km/h: What Drivers Must Know

Effective September 14, 2026, Abu Dhabi Mobility has officially reduced the speed limit on a section of the Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Road (E311). The limit has been decreased from 120 km/h to 100 km/h in both directions. This adjustment applies to the corridor between Tawi Al Qaymah / At Turoush Street and Al Khayr Street, encompassing the areas surrounding Al Shamkhah, Madinat Al Riyad, and Baniyas Cemetery. This road segment, known as Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road within Dubai, serves as a vital corridor for commuters traveling between the two emirates.

• Abu Dhabi does not have a speed buffer, and radars catch speeds just 1 km/h over the limit.

Speeding Fines and Rules

Unlike Dubai, Abu Dhabi does not maintain a 20 km/h speed buffer; radars detect speeds as low as 1 km/h over the posted limit. Fines for violations commence at Dh300. More severe speeding offenses can result in up to 23 black points, vehicle impoundment, and confiscation for up to 60 days. Drivers are reminded that an early payment scheme offered by Abu Dhabi Police allows for a 35% discount on fines if paid within 60 days. This policy follows the April 2025 removal of the 120 km/h minimum speed requirement on the same road.

Road Closures and Driver Advice

Additionally, authorities noted that two left lanes on the E11 towards Al Shahama were closed from midnight on September 13 until 5:00 a.m. on September 14. Abu Dhabi Mobility advises motorists to observe updated road signage, adjust cruise control settings, and ensure navigation applications like Google Maps and Waze are updated to reflect the new limits.
