Abu Dhabi Bans Car Washing in Public Parking Zones

Vehicle owners across the capital must change how they maintain their cars following a strict new mandate from authorities. Abu Dhabi Mobility, the Integrated Transport Centre under the Department of Municipalities and Transport, has officially prohibited the washing of vehicles in all public parking areas managed under the MAWAQiF system.

The new regulations are not limited to commercial hubs; they extend across the entire emirate, including residential villa zones. This move is part of a broader effort to regulate parking usage, maintain urban aesthetics, and ensure that cleaning services are conducted in an organized manner.

Only Licensed Companies Permitted

Under the updated rules, the days of informal roadside cleaning are coming to an end. Car washing services may now only be provided by companies that meet the following criteria:

  • They must have obtained prior approval from Abu Dhabi Mobility.
  • They must operate exclusively in authorized locations.

Authorities have issued a stern warning to residents and vehicle owners: do not employ unlicensed workers for roadside or parking lot vehicle cleaning. Using unauthorized services could lead to penalties for both the vehicle owner and the workers involved.

Impact on Residents and Expats

This policy change is expected to significantly impact the expatriate community, many of whom have historically relied on affordable, informal roadside cleaning services for convenience. To avoid legal issues, residents are now required to utilize licensed car wash companies or visit designated, authorized facilities.

Immediate Enforcement and Inspections

The ban is being enforced with immediate effect. To ensure compliance, Abu Dhabi Mobility is working in close coordination with Q-Mobility to carry out ongoing inspections throughout the emirate.

Authorities have confirmed that they will take decisive action against violators to ensure that the streets remain clean and that parking spaces are used for their intended purposes without unauthorized activity.
