9 Million Indians Face Retirement Crisis in GCC: No Pensions or Healthcare Security

A massive demographic of Indian migrants residing in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states is facing a precarious future. A recent qualitative study has sounded the alarm on a growing crisis: millions of long-term residents are approaching retirement age without the financial safety nets or healthcare security necessary to sustain them.

The research, conducted by University of Edinburgh scholar Dr. Idil Akinci through the ILO STREAM Programme, reveals that low- and middle-income Indian families—some of whom have lived in the region for decades—are left vulnerable as they age.
