In a significant move, UAE authorities have announced a two-month grace period starting from September 1 for individuals who have violated their residence visa conditions. During this period, violators can have their fines completely waived, offering them a unique opportunity to either regularize their status or leave the country without facing any financial penalties.
Compassionate Gesture by UAE Authorities ❤️
The initiative, as outlined by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP), is part of the UAE’s broader commitment to compassion and tolerance. The ICP has emphasized that this move reflects the core values of the UAE, aiming to give violators a second chance to align with the law.
The authorities will take all necessary steps to implement this initiative, including waiving fines and any legal consequences associated with overstaying. This allows violators to adjust their status or exit the country with ease, providing a fresh start for many.
Visa Validity and Grace Period Details 🗓️
The UAE’s residence visas come with varying validity periods depending on the type of visa and the sponsor involved. Sponsored visas can be valid for 1, 2, or 3 years, while self-sponsored visas may last up to 5 or 10 years.
However, failing to renew a visa before it expires or leaving the country after the visa has expired can result in fines. To alleviate the burden on residents, the UAE has standardised these penalties in 2023, reducing the daily fine from Dh100 to Dh50 for those who overstay their visas.
For expats wishing to renew their visas, the UAE provides grace periods of up to six months after a residence visa is canceled or expires, offering ample time to manage their status.
Procedures and Implementation 📝
The ICP has assured that detailed procedures for this amnesty program will be announced soon.
